On New Years Night everyone heads to the ocean after midnight with roses or flowers as an offering to Yemanja. The tradition is to step over 7 waves and make 7 wishes and on the last wave toss the flowers into the water. Make sure to always walk to the land backwards, never turning your back to the sea.
